Capriccioso

Watched the women's volleyball match again. This time, I feel really pity for the Russians. They were so close to the gold medal, but they lost. Sigh, perseverance is really something that counts in the end. Just like Li Jiawei, because of the lack of perseverance that makes her too occupied with scores, she lost the semi-final. I still feel so proud of our China's volleyball girls and all other athletes who participate in the Olympics. No matter what are the results, I salute them.

Mum tells me last night that all the achievements of the gold medalist come with immense hardwork. Liu Xiang trained much longer and harder before the game. Xing Huina's coach brought her to the northeast point of China in the winter to train her long distance running. Volleyball girls went to Zhuzhou (a city in my province) for the final training where the facilities are below standard. "天将降大任于世人也,毕先苦其心志,劳其筋骨,饿其体肤,空乏其身..." The ancients do know the secret to success.

Borrowed "Godfather" from Ding Ning yesterday. I even don't dare to continue watching after half an hour. I really don't expect it is a movie about Mafia... only know it is a very famous movie... very scary, indeed.

One down... four more to go

GP is finally finished... I did a mess for my application question... really ran out of time... For essay, I wrote one about Singapore... really feel it is a suicidal question after I finished...

Anyway, though the paper may not be disastrous, it is also not at the better side... Good Luck..

Watched 'Garfield' straightly after GP... relaxed.... really suitable to watch especailly after a demoralising exam...

No paper tomorrow, a great relief to me.... Next paper starts a week later... happy studying!

尘埃落定

I think I need to write something in English. Having been writing Olympics in Chinese for quite a long time.

Athens 2004 summer games is finally closed. Suddenly, I felt a sense of emptiness when I woke up this morning, switched on my laptop as usual, and realised there is no reason for me to check the medal table again. Everything has come to an end. The 16 days have passed so fast, I told myself. Pan Yu tells me if Olympics is held once a year, I won't be so excited and so obsessed with it. If China is not a strong nation who can won so many medals in the games, I won't be so concerned about the medal table. It is really true, I must admit.

China has really done us proud this time. With 32 golds, 17 silvers and 14 bronzes, we have achieved an unprecedentedly amazing result. Furthermore, our source of medals has expanded greatly this time. Quoted from Yuan Weimin, Chairman of the Chinese Olympic Committee during the Chinese Sport Delegation Press Briefing:"We have realised our target and accomplished our task successfully. Good results and good sportsmanship. Compared to the Olympic Games Sydney 2000, we have won three more medals, while a further 20 athletes achieved top 8 results. In Sydney we won medals in nine events and 28 disciplines, while in Athens we won medals in 12 events and 47 disciplines." Some of the medals really come with huge surprises such as the golds in women's tennis double, men's 110 hurdle and women's 10000m. There are also some medals are missed with great disappointments such as men's table tennis single, men's badminton and men's 3m spring board synchronised diving. Chinese female athletes have undoubtedly outperformed male counterparts in all the events. The female athletes obtained more than 60% of the gold medals. I am also particularly impressed by the great sportsmanship and never-died fighting spirit displaced by volleyball girls in their gold medal match against Russia. Watching their performance is a definite inspiring experience. A big cheer for them.

During the closing ceremony, the Men's marathon victory ceremony was conducted. Athens is indeed a place full of legends and wonders. More than 100 years ago, the first modern Olympics was held in the birth place of Athena, Plato, and marathon. 108 years later, the games return to here. However, according to the reports, what Athens has inputted in the game is far beyond what they have received. The debt incurred will make the taxpayers in the country to repay for more than 10 years. Being an expensive games, Beijing has reasons to pay attention on the cost during the preparation for the 2008 games. Being an developing country, China cannot afford to waste too much resources and funding.

Really hope I will be privileged enough to be a volunteer in 2008 Beijing Olympics. I really hope I can contriubte as much as I can for the first Olympics held in my homeland. Listening to the theme song of 1996 Atlanta Olympics "Reach". Just realised I sang the song during my prefect's investiture in Cedar. Though there are injustice and scandals in Olympics, I still believe that it is the game that athletes all over the world will meet, compete and build friendship. People all over the world will be able to appreciate athletes of their own and other's countries and further promote international understandings. The opportunity is so rare.

Farther. Faster. Higher. Yes, if ever I could reach, higher, what would I be?
